This past weekend was Tobacco Leafs 6th anniversary celebration which included fire breathers, dancers, live music, and 10+ artists demonstrating their talents. To get ready for this show there were several key arrangementss that had to be set in stone before committing  myself to it.  When going out of town for a show it not only affects my studio and crew  but also my family at home..So Its imperitive that before commiting yourself you need to get all your ducks in a row and even then when we arrived and setup there were a few items that we forgot to pack. So for the sake of helpng you the artists have a successful time I created this checklist and had to share it with you
In the show I break down each part of the list into more detail. Listen through and see where you could make adjustments to cater to your specific needs.  This is just a guideline.

5-Keys to a Successful Demonstration

1.Business- establish payment/compensation and dates of demo do not goto step Two until this is set in stone

2.Make all arrangements for transportation and accommodations. This all depends on the local of the shop. Whether you're flying, or driving both transportation and accommodations are crucial to establsh the foundation for the trip. Also find out what the shop will be supplying for example. Will they have a kiln, gases, tent, electrical, etc.  This information is crucial to be able to move on to step

3. Plan out the demonstration based on arrangements. Now that you have a good idea of the arrangements the. You can begin to plan out the demonstration.

4.Create an itemized list of all materials and supplies you will need to bring. If you are flying call ahead to the airline and ask what their requirements are when traveling with such equipment.  A hard case for the torch and tools is suggested and has to be checked on the plane. It cannot be a carry-on.

5.Have a ton of fun and be entertaining. Don't be afraid to interact with the audience. Especially since they've come to see YOU.  This is a great way to build a repor with your tribe and give them more reason to fall in love with you and your art.

Episode 40: systemizing the customer experience

In this episode I cover the basics on what it takes to have a complete systemized customer experience. A system that I am beginning to implement into my business which is helping me manage time better and free up more of it for focus in other areas of life. Here's a basic breakdown of this system

Customer experience checklist

Take order from customer immediately write down their information and create a folder. Document how the conversation was made thru what platform whether text , email , DM's, etc.

Take payment whether a deposit or in full,  create an invoice send your customer a copy and keep one for yourself
Make item if needed ,if needed to be made give customer an estimated time of completion and shipping. A good rule of thumb is if the item has to be made and is a  custom give them a month turn around during this time. Make sure your customer is kept up-to-date on the process especially if it takes at least two weeks to get started after payment is taken
Through the process of creating the item take pictures and share them with your customer to involve them in the experience.... they will love it!!
Once item is complete or is already in stock make sure you pack it well  include any marketing you may have whether it's stickers , business cards, flyers etc. it also is a nice thank you

Whether using post office ,UPS , or FedEx once it is ready to ship make sure you send the customer the tracking information. You could have automated emails sent to you from the shipping companies to let you know of the status of shipping sometimes this can be kind of inconvenient because it bogs down your emails but it could also be something that your customer would like. When you know that the  item is getting shipped on a specific day , or will arrive, contact your customer to let them know that they will be receiving the item that day
Once you verify that the customer has received your item follow up and make sure that the item is OK, if it is what they asked for and then ask them if they can share a video and or picture on their social media feed

Hope this helps. I'll be including a free PDF  check list in the next news letter and all you have to do is click the link below.

Glass career:  Andrews Bio

I have considered myself an artist for as long as I can remember,
but have only ventured into glass artistry in the past 13
years. When I was very young, I recall watching a flame worker
at Disney World fashioning a sailboat out of glass. To me,
observing something so rigid transform into such a liquid
form was truly one of the most magical things in the world.
Later in life, while studying art at the University of Massachusetts,
I became interested in three dimensional forms and sculpture.
In the pursuit of finding new means to express myself, I discovered
glass.

After rigorously searching for anyone who would teach me
I came across the humble Dragonfly Studio in eastern Pennsylvania.
There I was introduced to the basics of lampworking: marbles,
pendants, and small vessels. From that point forward in my
life I have strived to learn new techniques and advance my
skills.

I am captivated by organic forms in glass. I have taken a step back to review the work of lamp workers before me. A professor once said to me, "practicing the basics and reviewing the past will always move you forward." I have always believed this to be true and have found that
it has helped me most in developing my artistic niche in glass
working.
